Hummersea

HummerseaHummersea is a stunning piece of coastal land just to the north of Loftus. The reserve, which extends over 50 acres, includes a wide swathe of maritime slope supporting a rich flora and is designated as a Local Wildlife and Geological Site.

The Cleveland Way follows the southern boundary of the site and another public footpath descends by some wooden steps to a small pebble beach and the remains of an Alum House. Part of this is above Mean High Water and is included in the property.

The nature reserve is a generous bequest from Angela Cooper MBE, who died in May 2010. Angela was a founder member of the Trust and made a massive contribution to its early work and development. She served as a trustee and on the Conservation and Education Committees for many years. In 1997, she was awarded the Christopher Cadbury Medal for services for the advancement of nature conservation in the British Islands.
