The Problem?

Curly Waterweed (Lagarosiphon major) is a submerged plant species which spreads quickly to out compete native pond plants. Like most invasive pond weeds, Curly Waterweed is often sold by garden centres as a pond oxygenator and can often be mislabeled.

What Are We Doing?

Curly Waterweed can spread quickly from the smallest of fragments and currently is found in one of our ponds at the Preston Farm reserve. Control of this weed is difficult and can be expensive. At present our volunteer teams periodically remove Curly Waterweed by hand though this will not prevent the pond weeds return.
