Support barn owls in the Tees Valley by sponsoring a nest box

As a sponsor, you’ll receive: 

• Information about the general location of your sponsored nest box 

• Email updates during the breeding season (from late April or early May 2027) 

• News of any activity recorded by our licensed volunteers 

Nature can be unpredictable. We expect the boxes to be used by barn owls, but some boxes may be used by other wildlife, while others may remain empty. But each nest box gives barn owls the best possible chance of success. 

A £10 sponsorship helps cover the costs of: 

• Volunteer travel for licensed nest box monitoring

• Bird ringing (which contributes to national conservation studies)

• Repairing and replacing older nest boxes 

A £100 sponsorship allows us to:

• Construct and install a brand new, high-quality nest box in the Tees Valley
• Add the new box to our monitored nest box network
• Create new nesting opportunities for barn owls where natural sites are limited

A new nest box can provide a safe breeding site for many years, helping many generations of barn owls to thrive across our local landscape.

Helping barn owls thrive locally: read more about this project

Since 2019, Tees Valley Wildlife Trust has been working with landowners and experienced volunteers to build a network of specially designed barn owl nest boxes across East Cleveland and the wider Tees Valley. 

More than 400 nest boxes have been installed so far, helping to create safe breeding spaces across the landscape. 

Each year, licensed volunteers carefully monitor the boxes, recording breeding activity and ringing chicks as part of wider conservation work. New boxes are installed where needed and older ones repaired or replaced, helping to secure a future for barn owls in our area.
