Little Terns at Seaton Carew: guided wildlife walk
Event details
About the event
Discover the wildlife on your doorstep with a relaxed, guided nature walk at Seaton Carew beach - the site of a nesting little tern colony.
This wildlife walk will be led by Tees Valley Wildlife Trust and natural history experts from Cleveland Naturalists Field Club.
Little terns have been nesting at Seaton Carew since 2019. Little terns nest directly on open sand and shingle. Their eggs are perfectly camouflaged, but this also makes them vulnerable to people, dogs and predators like foxes and birds of prey.
Alongside Hartlepool Borough Council, the local community and a team of supporters, volunteers and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust wardens, our job is to protect this site through protective fencing and 24 hour monitoring. This gives the little terns the greatest chance of success.
Whether you’re already familiar with this site, or would like to visit for the first time, join us to explore the coastline and learn about little terns.
Please dress for the weather, bring water and wear footwear suitable for outdoor walking and walking on the beach.
Bring binoculars or any other nature spotting tech if you’d like to!
This is a free walk. If you'd like to make a donation, this would be very much appreciated and will help us to continue our work in this place.
No booking required - just turn up on the day and look forward to a lovely walk.
